Dental Crowns in El Cajon, CA

A dental crown is a cosmetic and oral health solution for people with damaged or imperfect natural teeth. For extra protection to your teeth, as well as a natural-looking beautiful smile, dental crowns cover the natural tooth aiding in oral support.

The number one advantage of dental crowns, also known as a cap, is its long-lasting ability. For ten or more years, a cap allows you to enjoy an authentic-looking, improved, and better-looking smile. Crowns provide additional protection to your natural tooth and can function as an aid for a dental bridge.

Proper flossing and brushing are essential for caring for crowns. That said, your dentist can go over any and all protocols about dental care protocols that you should follow each day. Avoid grinding your teeth, chewing anything hard, and biting your nails. Doing so will prolong the strength, robustness, and lifespan of your crown.

Placement Procedure

At East County Family Dental Center, two appointments are all it takes to put a crown in. The first step is preparing the natural tooth beginning with an X-ray to examine if there is any damage to be fixed, first. For example, decay and infections must first be addressed for a successful treatment. Special dental materials are used to strengthen the foundation for your crown if necessary.

Next, the natural tooth is reshaped and filed down for a guaranteed comfortable fit. The reshaping and filing are necessary for the crown to last. After the reshaping, we take an impression (an exact mold) of your tooth. The impression allows us to create a custom crown that fits your reshaped tooth perfectly, matching the color and size of its bordering teeth, and align with your smile and bite. The crown takes about two to three weeks to make, during which a temporary cap is positioned over the natural tooth at your first visit.

Last, at the second visit, Dr. George Jared, DDS will place your permanent crown in. For a pain-free application, anesthetic is applied. After the placement of your crown, you’ll be told instructions for self-care and follow-up care. Finally, you get to enjoy your gorgeous new smile for years to come!
